R.E

We have started learning all about how our differences make us special.  We have been looking in the mirror to see what we look like and painting a self-portrait.  In provision, we have been making different faces with loose parts.

To continue our topic, we had a special visit from Mrs Davies, Miss Walsh and their children. We looked at a baby, a toddler and a young child and talked about the different things they could each do and also the things they each needed. We also thought about what we would be like when we grow up. The children enjoyed dressing up as what they would like to be when they are older.

This week is the Hindu festival of Diwali. During our RE lesson, we found out about this festival and why and how Hindus celebrate it. We found out that this Festival of Lights is about light conquering darkness, a symbolism for good over evil.

This week we started our Christmas topic. We talked about how Jesus was born at Christmas and that Christmas is a celebration of his birthday. The children learnt that Jesus was a special baby and to start off our topic, we looked at some other special babies...the children! We played a game of, 'Guess the baby!' It was a lot of fun.

We went to visit St Peter's Church to see it all decorated for Christmas.  Father Cornelius gave us a tour and taught us some interesting things about what happens in the church at Christmas time.
