Understanding of the World

For Harvest we wanted to learn about where our food comes from. We took a trip to Tesco to buy some fruit. When we got back, we had a look where each thing came from and also enjoyed tasting it!

We learnt all about the Hindu festival of Diwali and how people celebrate this festival around the world.

For Bonfire night, we learnt about Guy Fawkes and the reason people in Britain celebrate this day.  We made our own sprinklers and had a 'bonfire'.

We went for an Autumn Walk through the woods today.  We explored how the woods are changing during autumn. The leaves are changing colour, some are starting to fall to the ground, it is starting to feel a little colder outside, and we made autumn sun catchers.

For Children in Need, we had lots of Pudsey-themed activities in our provision.  The children watched a video to learn about the work Children in Need does and why we support this as a school.

We had a very cold Teddy Bears Picnic today. We enjoyed looking at the autumn leaves on the trees and talking about how they had changed colour in recent weeks from green to brown and yellow and orange. We did talk about how the weather felt more like winter though than autumn!

As part of our learning about the world around us, we celebrated Chinese New Year. We tried different elements of Chinese cuisine, and really enjoyed the experience.

We made our own Chinese lanterns and had a Chinese Restaurant in our role-play area.

We decorated our Chinese dragon masks, and used them to do dragon dancing during P.E.
